Thank you for trusting DentFirst with your dental care. After your recent surgical procedure, our goal is to help you recover safely and comfortably.
Below are detailed post-operative instructions to support your healing. If you have any questions or concerns during your recovery, please contact your DentFirst office. We’re here for you every step of the way.
– Bite gently on the gauze provided to maintain pressure on the surgical site. This helps a healthy clot form.
– After 2 hours, check the area. If bleeding has stopped, you may discontinue gauze use. If not, replace it with clean gauze.
– Avoid spitting, rinsing, using a straw, or smoking. These actions can dislodge the blood clot and delay healing.
– If saliva is slightly blood-tinged, this is normal. It often looks more severe than it is.
– If you experience heavy bleeding or see a clot resembling raw liver, contact our office or answering service right away.
– After 24 hours, you may gently rinse with warm salt water to keep the area clean.
– Swelling is normal after surgery and can be managed with the following steps:
During the First 24 Hours:
– Apply an ice pack to the outside of your face near the surgical area.
– Use it in 20-minute intervals (20 minutes on, 20 minutes off).
After 24 Hours:
– Switch to a warm, damp washcloth on the area.
– This can help with comfort and support continued healing.
– Your healing and comfort matter to us. If you experience unexpected symptoms or need support, contact DentFirst right away.
– Our team is committed to making your recovery process smooth, safe, and stress-free.
Thank you for choosing DentFirst.
– If your dentist prescribed antibiotics, take the full course exactly as directed—even if you start feeling better before finishing them.
– This ensures the infection is completely treated and reduces the risk of complications or reinfection.
– For pain relief, use any medications prescribed or recommended by your dentist. Over-the-counter pain relievers such as ibuprofen (Motrin, Advil), naproxen (Aleve) or acetaminophen (Tylenol) are commonly used unless otherwise instructed.
– If you experience any allergic reactions such as difficulty breathing, rash, or swelling, stop the medication and contact us immediately.
Wait until the numbness from anesthesia wears off to avoid accidentally biting your cheek or tongue. Try to wait until the bleeding has stopped and is under control. Start with soft foods and avoid chewing near the surgical area.
Yes. Minor oozing or pink-tinged saliva is normal for the first day. Heavy bleeding or large clots should be reported immediately.
Swelling usually peaks within 48–72 hours and gradually decreases. Using ice initially and warm compresses later helps manage it, but it can last up to one week.
You can brush gently the same day, avoiding the surgical site. Resume flossing and full brushing when advised by your dentist.
Contact our office immediately. This may result in delayed healing or dry socket, which can be treated if caught early.
