Dr. Leavitt was born and grew up in Chattanooga, Tennessee. After playing
football in high school, he attended UT Knoxville and then Dental School at UT
Memphis. In his first year of dental school he was selected for a research team
at the Baptist Hospital in Memphis where he continued working until graduation.
Upon graduation, Dr. Leavitt served in the U.S. Army Dental Corps for two years,
stationed initially at Fort Sam Houston and then at Fort Benning. He finds
interacting with patients the most rewarding part of his day and enjoys all
aspects of restorative dentistry. When he is not treating patients, he likes
spending time with his wife Joyce, sons, John Jr. and Blair, and granddaughter
Ava. He and his family enjoy swing dancing, water skiing, and lots of snow
skiing at Cataloochee Mountain in North Carolina. Dr. Leavitt joined Dentfirst
in December 2002 after leaving his 35 year private practices in Decatur and
Peachtree Corners. His lifetime dental memberships include the Georgia Dental
Association and the American Dental Association. In the past, Dr. Leavitt was
active in the Northern District Dental Society, the DeKalb Dental Study Club,
Gwinnett Dental Study Club and the Gwinnett Dental Society. Dr. Leavitt treats
patients at the Mall of Georgia and Cumming offices.
