| Dr. Buford was
born and raised in Collierville, Tennessee. In High
School he was an honor roll student, active in 4-H, and
in marching band perfected his musical talents on the
flute and tenor sax (which he still actively plays). He
jammed' his way through both college and Dental School
playing the jazz ensemble "ESP" before
completing a General Practice Residency with the US Air
Force while stationed at Offutt, Nebraska. He currently lives with his wife
Karen, a nurse, and their daughter (a pre-law at Emory).
Larry's hobbies include playing the sax, chess and
tennis. Dr. Buford believes in life-long continuing
education and has demonstrated his commitment to this
training by becoming an Associate Fellow of the Academy
of Implant Dentistry in 1994 and Fellow in the
Atlanta Craniomandibular Society in 1991. His special
interests in dentistry are Implants and TMJ treatment.
Dr. Buford was awarded a Certificate in Dental Public
Health by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention
in 1996 and completed two extensive studies in oral
cancer. One of his most recent lectures was the
presentation before the International Association of
Dental Research (IADR), in Nice, France, of data on oral
and pharyngeal cancer in the U.S. and the high rate to
this cancer among black men in the U.S.
He is a member of both the American
and National Dental Associations, American Academy of
Implant Dentistry, Georgia Dental Society, North Georgia
Dental Association (President 1992), Academy of General
Dentistry, Atlanta Craniomandibular Society, and
American Public Health Association.
